Akhanda 2 - Thaandavam - January 9 (Netflix)

Legendary spiritual warrior Akhanda Rudra Sikandar Aghora (played by Nandamuri Balakrishna) returns in Akhanda 2: Thaandavam after a period of penance to save India from a disastrous biological weapons scheme. Teenage scientific prodigy Janani (Harshaali Malhotra), daughter of Murali Krishna, becomes the main target of the enemy when she develops a vaccine to protect the Ganga River from a deadly virus that an enemy nation's military and a corrupt Indian politician (Aadhi Pinisetty) plan to release during the Maha Kumbh Mela. As a one-man shield for his family and the preservation of Sanatana Dharma, Akhanda returns to protect her whenever she is threatened, unleashing his divine rage and supernatural might to confront high-tech armies, occult foes, and political conspirators.

De De Pyaar De 2 - January 9 (Netflix)

De De Pyaar De 2 resumes the unconventional romance between Ashish, a 51-year-old NRI investor played by Ajay Devgn, and Ayesha, a 27-year-old woman portrayed by Rakul Preet Singh. After winning over Ashish’s family in the first film, the couple travels to Chandigarh to convince Ayesha’s seemingly “progressive” parents. However, the situation spirals into a classic “Pyaar vs. Parivaar” dilemma when Ashish’s father, Rakesh (R. Madhavan), who is nearly the same age as Ashish, fails to live up to the modern ideals he proudly preaches.

As generational hypocrisy, social ego, and emotional expectations collide, the story explores the resilience of love under pressure. The conflict escalates with Rakesh and Anju (Gautami Kapoor) hatching a calculated plan—bringing in Ayesha’s childhood friend Aditya (Meezaan Jafri) to pull her away from Ashish. The film builds toward a high-stakes emotional showdown, forcing the family to choose between societal pride and their daughter’s happiness.

Freedom at Midnight – Season 2 (January 9, Sony LIV)

Freedom at Midnight – Season 2 continues its gut-wrenching dramatization of India’s journey by focusing on the turbulent months following Partition and Independence in 1947. Produced and directed by Nikkhil Advani, the series delves deep into the political corridors where Jawaharlal Nehru (Sidhant Gupta), Mahatma Gandhi (Chirag Vohra), and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (Rajendra Chawla) grapple with the nation’s most defining challenges.

The season portrays the violent mass migrations, the emotional scars left by Partition, and the complex process of merging princely states into a unified India. Moving beyond textbook history, Season 2 highlights the “human stories” often overlooked—revealing the moral dilemmas faced by leaders and the emotional toll of shaping a newborn nation.

The narrative also brings historical figures like Muhammad Ali Jinnah (Arif Zakaria) and Lord Mountbatten (Luke McGibney) into sharp focus, examining their influence during this critical phase. At its core, the season is a powerful exploration of identity, sacrifice, and leadership in the aftermath of colonial rule.

Kaalratri Season 2 - January 9 (hoichoi)

Season 2 of the Bengali thriller series Kaalratri begins immediately after the eerie events of the cursed wedding night in the first season. A fresh wave of cold-blooded killings targets the children of the Barman household after Debi (Soumitrisha Kundu) finds herself trapped inside the haunted Roy Barman mansion following the murder of her husband, Rudra.

As secrets buried deep within the family begin to surface, DSP Satyaki Sanyal (Anujoy Chattopadhyay) returns to lead the investigation and forms a fragile alliance with Debi to untangle a web of familial scandals, shifting loyalties, and suppressed memories.

Directed by Ayan Chakraborti, this final installment aims to uncover the truth behind Debi’s long-forgotten past and expose the cold, calculating mastermind responsible for the brutal carnage.

People We Meet on Vacation – January 9 (Netflix)

People We Meet on Vacation is based on the best-selling novel by Emily Henry and explores the fragile line between easy friendship and lasting love. Starring Emily Bader and Tom Blyth, the film follows two contrasting personalities—English teacher Alex Nilsen and free-spirited New York travel writer Poppy Wright—who maintain a decade-long tradition of taking one summer vacation together each year.

When Poppy finds herself emotionally unfulfilled, she convinces a reluctant and emotionally guarded Alex to join her on one final, high-stakes trip to Palm Springs. The vacation is meant to heal their fractured bond, which broke two years earlier after a mysterious argument during a trip to Croatia.

Told through a time-jumping narrative, the film—also starring Alan Ruck, Molly Shannon, Jameela Jamil, and Lukas Gage—forces its characters to confront the one truth they have avoided for years: that they may not just be travel companions, but each other’s perfect romantic match.

Honeymoon Se Hatya – January 9 (Zee5)

Honeymoon Se Hatya: Why Women Kill, directed by Ajitesh Sharma, is a gripping five-part true-crime documentary that explores the dark psychological fractures that can emerge beneath the surface of seemingly perfect marriages.

The series investigates real-life cases where honeymoons and early married life turned into horrifying crime scenes, including the infamous Meerut “blue drum” murder and the Indore case of Raja Raghuvanshi.

Using a compelling mix of forensic analysis, expert interviews, and dramatic recreations, the show peels back layers of betrayal, toxic control, and hidden domestic anguish—revealing how promises of “happily ever after” can descend into cold-blooded murder.

The Night Manager – Season 2 (January 11, Prime Video)

The Night Manager – Season 2 begins eight years after the devastating events of the first season, with Jonathan Pine (Tom Hiddleston) living in self-imposed isolation before being drawn back into the perilous world of international espionage.

Recruited by a restructured intelligence unit, Pine is tasked with infiltrating the inner circle of Teddy Dos Santos, a charming yet ruthless Colombian arms dealer who has risen to power after the presumed death and mysterious disappearance of Richard Roper. Disturbingly, Dos Santos is believed to be receiving covert support from elements within the British government.

Set against the breathtaking yet treacherous landscapes of South America, the mission forces Pine to confront the moral consequences of his past betrayals and uncover the chilling reality that the legacy of his former enemy is more dangerous than ever.
